IDEs Again

I’ve been switching back and forth between Eclipse and NetBeans. I switched all my shareware game development to NetBeans. I’m still using Eclipse to do my Enterprise development. The result: I’m not terribly happy with either IDE at this point.

Eclipse seems to be getting slower and slower in general. But NetBean’s source editor feels clunky (more like JEdit) after using Eclipse. I’d try the free evaluation of IntelliJ IDEA, but I might like it and then have to cough up $500. I could try XCode 2.0, but my experiences with XCode 1.0 left a bad taste in my mouth.

Maybe it’s because I’m sick and achey that I’m moaning about IDEs again. Both the Eclipse and NetBean teams deserve a lot of credit, however I’d like to breathe though my nose again and have the best of both IDEs in one package.

I just changed the font for Java sources and took the \"Auto parse delay\" down from 2000 to 500 and this seems to fix the \"clunky\" feeling. I\'m using the same fonts in both IDEs so that it is less jarring moving between them.

In case you missed it - NetBeans Release Candidate 2 is now out.

I just grabbed it. Command-Q works. Yeah. Also It appears that I had left the Quaqua Look and Feel enabled for NetBeans which would explain part of the clunky feeling. That LAF affects GUI speed. It also was causing some odd bugs -- White on white text is some places.

Also the latest Profiler made it out the door. Also VisualGC module came out.
